Documentation of Compliance

Leading ship owners acknowledge that the responsibility of compliance documentation lies on the shoulders of ship owners, in esuring limitation of emissions, and ensuring level playing field in the industry. The IMO decision on the 0,5% Sulphur cap in 2020 has in particular started an important discussion on the enforcement of this regulation, and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) may be one of the means used to ensure compliance.

Using Danfoss IXA marine emission sensors is particularly suitable for CEMS as it delivers accurate realtime measurements of NOx, SOx, CO2 and NH3. This will enable the ship to prove compliance in case the port state control requests this information. The data is stored in the sensor for future reference and in cases where the ship GPS is connected to the sensor, all measurement data is tagged with information about the position.

Furthermore, increased focus on the environmental impact from the marine industry has led to a general focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and being the best in class, used as a competitive advantage. Using CEMS, enables documentation of emissions used for these purposes.
